Those who don't read

I find myself wondering about those who don't read. Since high school I've read countless romance novels (and not so countless self-improvement/self-help books) though they might not very knowledgeable, reading has broaden my perspectives. My brothers don't read as much as my sister and I do. I try to make them read, by going to the library and dragging them with me.. but after a few weeks it wears off and they are back at their playstations. How to make people read more? And what's the difference between those who do read and those who don't?

Nevermind..maybe one day I ought to understand why people read Chick Lit.. I dun have anything against chick lit but then most of you here read chick lit..and it seems like the bookster hub is more to discussion of that sort. Nevermind..you can carry on the discussion as usual.. Maybe I'll try to google what's real chick lit becoz as far as I am concern, never came across Chick Lit when I was doing my Lit deg. Nway, have a nice day.

Dear ashikin, I did not say manga was not reading material, I just said I did not like it and I think it should not be considered reading material since it mainly consists of pictures. As for the big L and small l thing, i don't even know what you are talking about. You misunderstand, I did not say anything about grading people, I meant people who read have broader perspectives, their conversation has more base. hahah.. I've never heard of a person who actually buys books for people to read and tell him what it was about. Heavier material? gossip? grooming? Chick lit, the real chick literature i mean, not what people mostly think it is, is actually heavier than gossip, it has depth and it has a solid storyline where the characters and the readers experience events, and in this era, authors usually write stuff based on a proper research and background check, so it is actually more knowledgeable. methinks the lady doth protest too much.

Farah, You are right..I've met boys who do read fictional books..novels..and they were my classmates.. doing lit like me also..and when book junkie meets book junkie?.. It's a bad bad combination... I do also have students who reads..alot( owh yeah..am teaching all-boys school).. They do not talk on what they read nor comments whether they read..They just read and be silent..No comment, no nothing..Only their actions reading novels can be seen... Book discussion?.. It's a big no no..

We cannot actually grade a person by whether they do read or not... They may not be a book junkie like us.. but then,,I believe most of them are more successful than most of us... If we are to grade... those in the readers category might be of different classess also.. Fpr example..those who really into big 'L'..those who just read the small 'l'... Then , we will be getting forum topic like..' Why don't teenagers read the big 'L'?.. Sorry of I sounds sceptical but as long as they read.. or better off without their reading.. You mighn't not know what they read..and maybe they are better from you in some other expects... I known my boyfriend as a non-reader as well.. He just loves buying books for me to read and tell him the story... Newspaper?..Rarely seen him holding one.. Magazine?..Once in a blue moon..Until one time.. I saw his laptop and his external drive... full with technical reference ebooks on his favourite networking subject; IPv6, e-magazines of men's health and Macintosh magazines?..hundreds of them... Newspaper?..Now there's online versions... As a conclusion, boys or others do read but of their own choices and motivation.. We cannot expect them to cling along a thick novel along whenever they go and they are called readers... p/s I realized that this bookster doesn't functions like Shelfari.. Most of the users here are chick lit readers... I ought to find other readers...I don't read chick lit and prefer heavier issues than gossiping, grooming, children..bla bla bla..

your right... manga. magazine, or factual books. they don't like details huh. they like movies more. reading takes longer than watching a 2 hour or so movie. i tried reading manga, hated it. i prefer the anime, manga should not be considered reading material. haha. its all pictures.
